Business magnate, investor and philanthropist George Soros was born in August, 1930 in Budapest, Hungary. In 1947 he fled Hungary during the Nazi occupation and made his way to London. In 1992 George Soros became known as ‘The Man Who Broke the Bank of England’ when he made a billion dollars by short selling the British pound on Black Wednesday during the United Kingdom’s currency crisis. He is said to have been helped by Karl Popper’s General Theory of Reflexivity which he has used for guidance in shorting and swapping stock. A well-known supporter of American liberal and progressive political causes, he donated $11 billion to a variety of philanthropic causes and organizations between 1979 and 2011. In 1993 George Soros founded the philanthropic organization the Open Society Foundation. Through this organization he provides financial support for a wide variety of causes and organizations all over the world. Donald Trump’s victory in the recently concluded elections in the United States was highly unexpected.
